Bike angels

Disabled bikers, for safety reasons, should always ride a bicycle with someone, especially in natural environment; whoever is accompanying impaired bikers needs to have specific knowledge and competences and it is important to be trained in order to be prepared.

The “Bike Angels” Program allows disable riders to meet with trained volunteers who will accompany them on off-road rides.

Our international project aims also to define training contents for the training of volunteers (Bike Angels) that will accompany disabled people during off road trips with handbikes/tandems.

In this way, able-bodied people will acquire competences and knowledges that will be disseminated to other volunteers at local level. Other organisations will also benefit of the information that will be available on line soon.

Main subjects of the training are:

  • ACCESSIBILITY OF TRAILS AND THEIR TECHNICAL CLASSIFICATION (IMBA);
  • SAFETY & FIRST AID;
  • PRACTICAL TESTS ON HANDBIKES AND TANDEMS;
  • BASIC MECHANIC REPAIRS ON A BICYCLE;
  • LEGAL ASPECTS;
  • CARTOGRAPHY AND GPS;
  • TEST BIKE RIDE.
